Farm School

Sunshine Farm Adventures

At Sunshine Farm Adventures, we invite children to slow down, get their hands dirty, and experience the farm.

Designed for homeschool families, our one-day-a-week farm school offers children ages 5–12 the chance to step into the rhythm of a real working farm: caring for animals, growing food, creating with their hands, and building confidence through meaningful, hands-on work.

For four hours each week, children are dropped off at a safe, nurturing environment where experienced guides lead them through the natural flow of farm life.

Our Heart Behind It

We created Sunshine Farm Adventures with a simple goal:
to give children the kind of childhood that feels grounded, capable, and connected.

Children learn through hands-on activities at the farm:

  • Feeding animals in the morning
  • Pulling carrots from garden beds
  • Measuring ingredients and baking something from scratch
  • Working together, solving problems, and trying again

Rooted in permaculture principles, our farm is designed to model a world where people, animals, and the land work together—and children get to be part of that story.

A Day on the Farm

Each day has a gentle rhythm, structured enough to provide guidance, but open enough to allow curiosity to lead.

Caring for Animals

From dairy goats to chickens, ducks, and bunnies, children learn to:

  • Feed and care for animals
  • Collect eggs from the chicken coop
  • Observe behavior and needs
  • Learn the cycle of life as goats, ducklings, chicks, and goslings are born each year
  • Build confidence through responsibility

Growing in the Garden

In their own dedicated garden space, children will:

  • Plant, tend, and harvest seasonal crops
  • Learn patience and the rewards of consistent care
  • Be able to try food fresh from the garden in its most natural form

Real-Life Skills

We believe kids are capable of more than we often give them credit for.

Throughout the session, they’ll practice:

  • Baking and simple food preparation
  • Running a small farm stand or store
  • Understanding money, value, and exchange

Room to Explore

There’s also space for:

  • Nature-based creativity
  • Free exploration
  • Climbing, building, imagining, and simply being kids

What Makes Us Different

This isn’t a simulation, it’s a real farm. Sunshine Farm Adventures is part of a working, permaculture-minded farm built to serve both the land and the community. That means children aren’t just learning about these things, they’re actively participating in them.

They leave each day not just with knowledge, but with a sense of contribution to the farm as a whole.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this a drop-off program?

Yes. Sunshine Farm Adventures is a drop-off program. Children are signed in at the start of the session and picked up at the end.

Do children need prior farm or animal experience?

Not at all. Most children are learning these skills for the first time here. We guide them step-by-step and meet them where they are.

What should my child wear?

Farm days can be muddy, dusty, and wonderfully messy. We recommend: closed-toe shoes (boots are great), comfortable play clothes that can get dirty, layers for changing weather

Are snacks or meals provided?

Children bring snacks for the morning and water bottle. They will also have the opportunity to bake in the microbakery at the farm and harvest garden snacks from the kids' garden.

What safety measures are in place?

Children are always supervised by experienced adults. We teach safe, respectful interaction with animals and tools, and all activities are age-appropriate and guided.

How is this different from a traditional class?

Instead of desk-based learning, children learn through real experiences—caring for animals, growing food, and practicing life skills. It’s slower, more intentional, and deeply hands-on.
