Hands-on Introduction to Sourdough Workshop
Where: Sunshine Farm (Vista, CA), exact address will be provided to registrants
What is included: Attendance for the 2-hour workshop, sourdough starter to bring home, additional tools will be available for purchase
Join us for a 2.5 hour communal hands-on workshop at the Sunshine Farm, a 2-acre farm and microbakery, where you'll learn how to make delicious sourdough bread from scratch alongside a group of 12-16 other aspiring sourdough bakers. Guided by Jennifer Ward, you'll discover the secrets to creating your own flavorful, homemade loaves. This workshop is perfect for someone with no experience, but will also be fun for those who have experience making bread. Attendees will have the opportunity to...
- Learn all about sourdough
- Gain an understanding of sourdough starter, including how to maintain it, how to feed it, and even bring one home with them
- Practice mixing, shaping, proofing, scoring, and baking sourdough
- Shape and bake their own mini sourdough loaf
- Taste a variety of sourdough breads throughout the event
What you will be able to bring home from the event:
- A strong and ready to go sourdough starter in a pint jar with a wooden lid ($15 value)
- Your own mini sourdough loaf shaped and baked during the workshop ($7 value)
- Dough prepared during the workshop with take home instructions for baking
- A folder with a printed workbook (containing recipes, instructions, a materials list, and more) ($15 value)
- A digital version of the printed workbook ($10 value)
Intermediate Class
Dive deeper into sourdough bread making, learn about making bread with inclusions, how to perfectly time fermentation, the benefits of upfront gluten development, incorporating different flours and freshly milled flour, and more! This is an opportunity to further enhance your skills and get all of your questions answered during an in depth 2.5 hour workshop at the Sunshine Farm Microbakery.
Attendees will have the opportunity to...
- Participate in an experiment to learn the differences in under and over fermented dough and baked loaves
- Practice laminating dough and adding inclusions, baking their own loaf with mix-ins
- Shape and bake their own full size inclusion loaf
- Learn about freshly milled flour, mixing up a loaf made up of 50% freshly milled flour
- Taste a variety of treats and pastries made with sourdough
What you will be able to bring home from the event:
- Your own sourdough linclusion loaf shaped and baked during the workshop ($15 value)
- Dough made up of freshly milled flour prepared during the workshop with take home instructions for baking

Refund & Cancellation Policy:
Workshops are nonrefundable.
Cancellations 24 hours prior to the class - registration for a future workshop date at no additional cost.
Cancellations less than 24 hours prior to the start of the workshop - registration for a future workshop date at 50% of the cost. Full cost may be covered depending on the reason for cancellation.

Lots of information but was presented in a way that was easy to digest. It was super helpful to work with the dough at every stage so it has been possible to recreate the process at home several times now.
Have now made 3 loaves. Each one getting better. The vlass was so much fun.
I am completely new to baking and sourdough and went in really nervous and overwhelmed. Jen was amazing! She taught the process so clearly and made it super manageable. I left feeling confident and ready to make some bread! I’ve made several loaves on my own now and I’m excited to try making other sourdough items too! I have already recommended this class to many friends! The best!!
This workshop was fabulous! While I have been making sourdough for a while, it was so helpful to learn tips and tricks from Jen, and the quality of my bread has significantly improved. It was also great to spend the afternoon with a great community of fellow home bakers.
Jennifer took all the stress out of sourdough. It was invaluable to be able to be in a classroom and ask questions. This is a great class!
